Reports To:                         General Director of Central Services and Facilities Planning           

 

Position Purpose:            To organize and direct the management of facilities departments in order to keep the District’s facilities and equipment maintained and operational so that they present no problems or interruptions to the education program.

 

Qualifications:

  1. High School graduate or equivalent. College degree preferred.
  2. Successful completion of a course of study in construction management from a college, trade, or technical school, and a minimum of five years experience in facilities management in a commercial or school environment. Any equivalent experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be taken under consideration.
  3. Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, voltages, hazardous materials, and proper practices necessary to perform the assigned tasks.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  1. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft 365, Google suite, CMMS, and BAS software programs.
  2. Ability to work with a broad range of people including Administration and to effectively manage a budget.
  3. Demonstrated ability to supervise, direct, and engage personnel in carrying out multiple work assignments.
  4. Knowledge of current national, state, city, and local construction codes and ability to enforce them.
  5. Familiarity with principles of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED).
  6. Knowledge of standard practices, tools, and terminology in relation to painting, carpentry, grounds maintenance, electrical, audio visual, HVAC, plumbing, and other assigned skill areas.
  7. Familiarity with installing equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications.
  8. Ability to handle multiple priorities in a highly demanding team atmosphere, make decisions with limited data, and process information in an orderly, accurate, and timely manner.
  9. Ability to interpret specifications and schematics, and to work from blueprints, sketches, written and verbal instruction, and to understand the technical language within the assigned skill areas.
  10. Must have a valid Kansas driver’s license and possess a good driving record.

 

Physical/Emotional Requirements: 

  1. The incumbent must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  2. Ability to work from a ladder.

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Reports to the General Director of Central Services and Facilities Planning.
  2. Carry out job duties according to District policies and enforce these policies with all personnel under direct supervision.
  3. Work cooperatively with appropriate state, county, city, and local authorities to comply with existing safety codes, fire codes, building codes, health codes, etc.
  4. Supervise and evaluate staff performance of the Maintenance Supervisor’s.
  5. Research, plan, and provide options for efficient and cost-effective renovations, repairs, small construction projects, large construction projects, etc.
  6. Assist with planning, bidding, supervision, and inspection of large and small facilities planning and construction projects carried out by contractors, subcontractors, etc. consistent with Board policies, administrative regulations, and available resources.
  7. Provide or facilitate training for department personnel related to policies and procedures, safety, continuing education, etc.
  8. Evaluates, directs, and coordinates responses to emergencies relevant to facilities department.
  9. Maintains records including purchasing requests, payroll sheets, work orders, equipment purchases, capital outlay projects, bidding documents, inventories, cost estimates, etc.
  10. Assists with capital outlay budget for major and minor projects related to the facilities departments.  Ensures competitive bidding and pricing.
  11. Ensure that facilities personnel respond to work requests in a timely, courteous, safe, and efficient manner.
  12. Ensure that facilities personnel perform maintenance and repair tasks in accordance with appropriate standards and procedures.
  13. Direct and assist facilities personnel with development and carrying out preventative maintenance program.
  14. Recommend replacement and/or major repairs of equipment.
  15. Direct facilities personnel in operating and caring for equipment used in daily work assignments.
  16. Direct facilities personnel, as necessary, in assisting with snow removal including operating snowplows, tractors, etc.
  17. Respond to emergency situations during and after hours as requested for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  18. Demonstrate professional image through appearance, language, and work ethic.
  19. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Term of Employment:                   Twelve (12) months

 

Evaluation:                                         Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the board policy on evaluation of Classified Personnel.

 

Significant Associations:               The performance responsibilities are not limited to those outlined in this description and may include any other responsibilities as assigned by the administrator/supervisor.
