Reports To: Transportation Manager

 

Position Purpose: To coordinate and supervise the transportation program including scheduling of the bus runs, employee work assignments, and vehicle maintenance

 

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Must have a current TB test.

• At least one year of experience in driving some type of motor vehicle (which may be a private automobile), including experience throughout each of the four seasons.

• Operating a computer

• Good communication and interpersonal skills

 

Experience:

• Experience with Google products and other special software applications such as Bus Hive, and Transfinder

 

Performance Responsibilities:

• Establishes school bus routes and time schedules in coordination with the Transportation Manager

• Assigns school bus drivers to routes and schedules staff to ensure adequate coverage for regular and special school activities. Works with school principals and others . responsible for planning special school trips;

• Receives and resolves routing and bus stop problems, complaints, and other problems involved in a bus run;

• Receive, transmit, and monitor radio communications among School Bus Drivers and report emergencies; adjust bus schedules and routing changes as situations occur, including driver absences and roadside breakdowns

• Maintains necessary records involving time sheets/cards, personnel, material costs, equipment, trip records parts inventory, etc.

• Coordinate the scheduling of vehicle servicing with the Bus Garage to ensure all buses assigned have been properly serviced and safety checked.

• Prepares all trip sheets, maps and other vital driver information related to extra trips

 

Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:

• Vehicle operation;

• Variety of Transportation Office equipment including PC and related software; 

• Safe driving practices;

• Kansas Vehicle Code and Education Code applicable to the operation of vehicles in transporting students;

• Dispatching/scheduling/bus routing in a school transportation environment;

• Behavior modification techniques to manage the behavior of students;

• District boundaries and the streets, roads, and housing areas within the District:; and the area that services the Special Needs students;

• Basic maintenance requirements and Driving Code;

• District policies/regulations regarding the transportation of students.

• Demonstrates knowledge of city and county streets and roads

• Ability to read maps

• Demonstrates knowledge of federal and state laws governing transportation

 

Ability to:

• plan school bus routes and schedules, field trips, and special excursions; evaluate schedules and meet deadlines;

• operate typical Transportation Office equipment;

• understand and carry out oral and written directions;

• make basic mathematical computations;

• prepare and maintain clear and concise records;

• work independently with minimal supervision;

• exercise good judgment and make common-sense decisions;

• recognize malfunctions in equipment and take appropriate action;·

• plan and organize activities;

• meet and maintain the physical requirements necessary to perform assigned job functions safely and effectively;

• communicate effectively and tactfully in both oral and written form;

• establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with those contacted in performing required duties.

• Have a comprehensive understanding of transportation routing. Use assigned software at an intermediate level.

• Analyze situations quickly and efficiently and develop appropriate courses of action.

• Deal with high-stress situations calmly and tactfully.

 

Terms of Employment: This is a full-time position. Start times may vary.

 

Evaluation:

The performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with pro vis ions of the Board policy on the evaluation of Classified Personnel.

Salary: starting $18.00
