Job Title: Routing/Planning Dispatcher Classification: Classified


Reports To: Dispatch Supervisor

 

Position Code:

Oversees the daily activities of bus drivers and aides. Ensures all daily routes are scheduled
and dispatched at appropriate route times for student transportation and safety.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
? High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
? One year experience in Transportation field is preferred.
? Proficient in use of Microsoft Office, Excel, and Outlook.
? Strong ability to plan, prioritize, and organize projects.
? Excellent problem-solving skills.

 

Essential Functions:
? Monitor and communicate daily through a two-way radio system
? Coordinate substitute drivers, routes, and field trips as needed for transportation
purposes
? Establish regular and special needs education bus routes, schedules, and stops
? Understands and effectively uses the district routing software for efficient routes and
changes
? Keeps Daily Sub Logs and Dispatch Sheets current; develops route sheets, maps, and
attendance sheets for department
? Monitors email regularly to make sure any changes to routes or schedules is seen to
allow for updates.
? Performs Relief Driver duties as needed. May be on a daily basis for an extended
period of time.

 

Other Job Functions:
? Review time off requests for drivers and aides to determine if there is interruption
with providing services.
? Provides clerical support to the Transportation department by answering telephone
calls, creating reports, and tracking data.
? Responds to accident sites and documents accidents for claims
? Schedules annual bus evacuation drills

Physical/Emotional Requirements: 
 
The incumbent may be required to use the following requirements during any part of the
working day:

 

Speaking, hearing, visual, reading, writing, word processing, mobility, consistency of
temperament, ability to work with a variety of problems at the same time, stamina for
working long hours and in stress producing environments.

 

Licensure Considerations:
? Commercial Driver’s License is preferred
