Title: Communications Specialist
Reports To: Director of Instructional Services
Supervises: NA
Position Purpose: The Communications Specialist will assist with planning events, graphic design, and will be part of a team supportung the marketing and public relations needs for the district.
Required Qualifications: BS in communications, mass media or other related field, skills in public relations and technical communications such as writing, photography, word processing, computer technology, design and electronic media are required.
Desired Qualifications: Previous experience or willingness to learn video production and coordination of communications projects is desired.
Skills:
- Experience in school or corporate communications/marketing
- Strong writing and verbal abilities
- The incumbent must communicate effectively through writing, speaking and varied electronics mediums; and be a positive influence in developing, maintaining and encouraging a quality working climate.
Physical/Emotional Requirements: (The incumbent may be required to use the below requirements during any part of the working day.) The incumbent should have quality eye/hand coordination, be mobile and able to drive. Must be able to remain calm in stressful situations.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Communication Skills:
- Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally to targeted audiences
- Excellent grammar and proofreading skills
- Understanding of AP style
- Drafting media releases and newsletters
- Special Events/Projects:
- Plan events and manage projects for district events
- Maintain databases and documentation for events
- Online and Broadcast Marketing
- Video skills including taping, editing, and storytelling preferred. Videotape events, edits video, and creates content for the district television station preferred
- Monitor various social media venues for troubleshooting and awareness. Leverage and enhance existing social media accounts to tell the district’s story
- Develop video and written news stories for placement on social media networks and district cable channel
- Attend district and community events to support coverage of key stories
- Use measurement tools including Google Analytics to evaluate existing work, recommend strategies to grow engagement on district platforms
- Media Relations: Serve as a back-up for media contacts and on-camera spokesperson
Terms of Employment: 12 months; salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education.
Evaluation: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the board policy on evaluation of Support Services Personnel
