QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Applicants must meet the Kansas State Department of Education licensure requirements and must have a degree in music education

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, talk, and hear.  The employee is frequently required to stand and reach with hands and arms.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  The employee is required to interact with staff and to meet demands from several people.  The employee is responsible for the work output of others.  On occasion, the employee may be required to work extended hours.

 

Performance Responsibilities:  The successful applicant will be able to coach teachers on how to incorporate music into their curriculum, build community partnerships; set short and long term goals to infuse the music signature theme throughout the entire school; teach music classes during the school day; tutor students after school; coordinate music events, assemblies and speakers to showcase student work and to expose students to the many different medians included within the music field of study.  The applicant will also design and coordinate after school and summer music programs.  Other duties include but are not limited to:

 

  • Make recommendations to administration on program development
  • Assist in coordinating program resources
  • Collaborate with the music staff to design and enhance their programs
  • Coordination of staff and professional development
  • Assist administration with the recruitment, selection, orientation, professional development for after school/summer school music teachers and/or tutors
  • Purchase and order equipment/supplies
  • Collaborate with various community groups to build partnerships
  • Give presentations as requested to community groups and the TPS Board of Education
  • Collect and maintain data on programs implemented for program evaluation purposes 
  • Teach skills in music appreciation, harmony, and explorations in music
  • Plan a balanced music program and organize daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time
  • Use various types of music literature that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils
  • Oversee the storage and use of school-owned property, makes minor adjustments, and requests repairs to instruments as required
  • Evaluate each pupil’s musical growth and performance
  • Plan, rehearse, and direct pupils in musical programs
  • Cooperate with the school administration in providing musical programs for school productions
  • Modify teaching to meet individual student needs
  • Communicate high expectations to all learners
  • Seek, listen, and respond appropriately to suggestions, requests, and concerns
  • Incorporate use of appropriate technology
  • Effectively implement the district-adopted curriculum
  • Develop lesson plans by incorporating effective lesson design
  • Use a variety of research-based instructional practices and current resources that support instructional goals and student needs
  • Model and facilitate higher-order thinking, problem solving, creativity, and flexibility
  • Routinely integrate a variety of informal and formal assessments into instruction
  • Use a variety of data in making instructional decisions
  • Make students aware of assessment standards/learner expectations
  • Assist students in developing self-assessment skills

  • Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as the superintendent or designee may assign

 

Terms of Employment:

9 months; salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education.

 

Evaluation:

Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board policy on evaluation of Certified Personnel.
