Reports To:  Building Principal 

 

Position Purpose:  To provide instruction to students in the Engineering and Applied Math/Robotics Pathway

 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Strong communication skills to engage scholars in the robotics and engineering pathway
  • Must be able to instructionally prepare students for robotics competitions
  • Must have or be able to obtain the necessary Kansas Teaching License in a science, computer science, or math program of study
  • Ability to identify and create partnerships with industry using robotics and drone technology
  • Demonstrate a passion and expertise in the teaching of computer science, robotics, and technology
  • Be an exemplar in the use of technology in the classroom to engage learners and build positive relationships
  • Be thoroughly conversant with current thinking on teaching K-12 computer science
  • Be eager to research and learn new programming languages and technologies and bring them into the classroom
  • Develop a curriculum with topics relevant to current industry and be proficient in languages that are industry best practices for the curriculum
  • Have an understanding of adolescent development and effective classroom practice; and foster the well being of students int he school by both challenging and engaging scholars.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching or related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in leading and teaching robotics project-based learning, coding, or engineering.
  • Willingness to obtain district-supported training for Project Lead the Way Engineering certification.

Responsibilities:

  • Instruct; maintain course curricula, databases, and reports pertaining to established training classes and perform research and development as assigned.
  • Maintain the equipment in the lab.
  • Develop and maintain a Pathway Advisory Committee comprised of local business and industry partners.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, talk, and hear.  The employee is frequently required to stand and reach with hands and arms.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  The employee is required to interact with staff and to meet demands from several people.

 

Terms of Employment: 

9 months; salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education.

 

Evaluation:

Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Topeka Public Schools Board of Education policies for certified personnel.
