Reports To: Building Principal
Position Purpose: Provide middle school students with instructional support in reading, math, science, social studies working with students individually and in groups using intervention strategies.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Requires 48 college credit hours or pass the state – mandated Paraprofessional test
- Skills in the use of computers
- Good interpersonal skills including the ability to work with minimal supervision
- Good organizational skills
- Ability to successfully accomplish/complete the annual professional development training
- Conscientiously accept and follow directions
- Adaptable to a variety of situations
Physical/Emotional Requirements:
The incumbent may be required to use the following requirements during any part of the working day:
Speaking, hearing, visual, reading, writing, word processing, mobility, consistency of temperament, ability to work with a variety of problems at the same time, stamina for working long hours and in stress producing environments.
Responsibilities may include:
- Assist teachers with daily instruction
- Assist students in achieving their individual objectives
- Work with small groups of students to learn or reinforce materials as directed by the teacher
- Perform clerical duties and record keeping as assigned by the teacher.
- Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up by the teacher
- Access communication and instructional resources and support student use of computers
- Participate in professional development training programs
- Communicates effectively with supervising teacher about classroom and student issues, and communicates with students in a manner that supports learning.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Terms of Employment:
9 months; salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education
Evaluation:
Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the board policy on evaluation of Classified Personnel.
