Description | Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor – Carpentry/Painting/Locks
Position Purpose: To keep the District’s facilities maintained and operational so that they present no problems or interruptions to the education program.
Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Successful completion of a Journeyman Painting Program, or equivalent experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Minimum of two years’ experience as a painter in a commercial, industrial, or facilities operations setting.
- Experience and training in painting, finish work, plastering, ceiling tile installation/repair, drywall installation/repair, carpentry, insulation, carpet installation/repair, flooring installation/repair, ceramic tile installation/repair, glass block, weather stripping, window installation/repair, door installation/repair, and door hardware and lock installation/repair. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as determined to be appropriate and acceptable.
- Knowledge of commercial/industrial practices, processes, and applicable code requirements related to the painting trade.
- Knowledge of standard practices, tools, and terminology in painting, plastering, carpentry, flooring, window installation/repair, door installation/repair, and other assigned skill areas.
- Ability to mix and match paints and stains, lay out/stencil signs, scrape, sand, remove graphite, remove graffiti, etc.
- Ability to read, understand, and apply technical information in equipment and facilities maintenance manuals, technical bulletins, blueprints, and associated literature; must be able to interpret the technical language within the assigned skill areas.
- Ability to design or modify components to meet job requirements in the assigned skill areas.
- Must have or obtain a valid Kansas driver’s license and possess a good driving record.
- Ability to work in varied weather and temperature conditions.
- Ability to work from heights.
- Knowledge of colors.
- Ability to perform work independently according to prescribed standards and procedures with a minimum of supervision.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Dependability and the ability to get along with others.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, hazardous materials, and proper ways necessary to perform the assigned tasks.
Physical/Emotional Requirements:
- The incumbent may be required to use the below requirements during any part of the working day.
- The incumbent must be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds.

Performance Responsibilities:
- Reports to the Maintenance Supervisor – Carpentry/Painting/Locks to receive each day’s assignments.
- Respond to work requests in a timely and courteous manner.
- Perform maintenance and repair tasks in accordance with appropriate standards and procedures.
- Prepare, prime, scrape, sand, seal, patch, and paint interior/exterior surfaces, fixtures, furniture, etc. using all types of painting materials such as latex, enamel, epoxy, varnish, stain, or lacquer.
- Tape, float, repair, apply texturing to walls and ceilings, wallpaper, and apply acoustic layers on a variety of surfaces.
- Select premixed paints or mix required portions of pigment, oil, thinning, and drying substances to prepare paint to match specified colors.
- Remove graffiti as necessary from all interior and exterior buildings within District.
- Assist with a variety of work assignments including such things as painting, plastering, ceiling tile installation/repair, drywall installation/repair, carpentry, carpet installation/repair, flooring installation/repair, weather stripping, window installation/repair, door installation/repair, etc. Assist with development and carry out preventative maintenance program.
- Operate, clean, and maintain all painting equipment, including brushes, rollers, sprayers, pumps, etc.
- Erect scaffolding, moveable and immoveable staging, rigging, ladders, etc. as necessary using proper safety methodology; move furniture and equipment as necessary.
- Follow the District’s system for the receipt and issuance of parts and supplies as well as maintaining recordkeeping and inventories.
- Assist Maintenance Supervisor-Carpentry/Painting/Locks in storage, handling, and disposal of paint, stain, varnish, and other chemicals according to established procedures.
- Ensure that all assigned vehicles, machinery, equipment, tools, and supplies are accounted for, secured, and used correctly.
- Attend appropriate training sessions, meetings, and classes as part of professional development.
- Accomplish assigned tasks in a safe and efficient manner.
- Operate and care for equipment used in daily work assignments.
- Maintain accurate and complete time sheets.
- Assist other maintenance areas with work requests as assigned.
- Assist with snow removal as necessary including operating snow plows, tractors, etc.
- Demonstrate professional image through appearance, language, and work ethic.
- Require good attendance record for continuity of operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Term of Employment: Twelve (12) months
Evaluation: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the board policy on evaluation of Classified Personnel.
