Reports To: IT Manager - Network Services
Summary:
The Network Specialist - Systems will be a highly skilled and very hands-on individual, working both independently and as part of a collaborative team. This team is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of the Topeka Public School's network. This position will be directly responsible for storage, server hardware and software, directory services, and identity management. This position will also manage Windows servers, Linux servers, in a virtual environment using VMWare.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a high degree of responsibility for multiple priorities and the ability to adapt to a changing environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Network administration of Linux Server, Windows servers, printers and user accounts
- Active Directory administration, maintenance, and support, including LDAP and Google Enterprise integrations
- Collaborate with internal and external other stakeholders to assess district needs
- Planning, installing, and managing projects related to the system
- Planning and implementing security for servers and end points measures
- Performing light programming and documentation of Network solutions
- Support Network, Education and Business applications
- Provide training of IT staff and end-users as necessary
- Create, monitor, and maintain backups of critical data
- Provide services outside regularly scheduled working hours as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position
Qualifications
Knowledge and Skills
- Two (2) years or more of experience in systems or network administration
- Google Enterprise user management services is a plus
- Associate or higher degree in a related field is desired
- Familiarity with Windows 10 OS, Mac OS, Apple IOS, Chrome OS
- Knowledge of SQL is desired
- Knowledge of web applications and systems integration is desired
Licenses and Certificates
- Requires a valid Kansas driver’s license
- Linux+ Certification or equivalent is a plus
- MCSA Certification or equivalent is a plus
Physical Abilities
- Requires: ambulatory ability to move to various office and classroom-type locations and to bend, stoop, crawl and reach to install cables and equipment; sufficient hand-eye coordination and dexterity to make small component connections; sufficient visual acuity to read technical documents and instructions and align small components; sufficient auditory ability to carry on routine conversations; ability to lift, push, and pull objects of medium weight (less than 75 lbs.) on an occasional basis; and the ability to work in confined areas with noise variations, dust, and limited ventilation.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed indoors where some safety considerations exist from physical labor, positioning in cramped areas, and handling of medium weight, yet, awkward materials.
- Work is performed generally during regular office hours with occasional project work or requests for assistance on evenings and weekends.
Terms of Employment: Salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education.
Evaluation: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board policy on evaluation of Support Service Personnel.
