Reports To:                         Maintenance Supervisor – Plumbing/HVAC        

 

Position Purpose:            To keep the District’s facilities maintained and operational so that they present no problems or interruptions to the educational program.

 

Qualifications:

 

  1. High school graduate or equivalent.
  2. Successful completion of a course of study in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning from a high school, trade school, or technical school.
  3. Successful completion of a Journeyman HVAC Program and a minimum of six years experience in a commercial, industrial, or facilities operation setting. Any equivalent experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be taken into consideration.
  4. EPA Refrigerant Certification is required, or must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
  5. Experience and training in plumbing, pumps, boiler repair, food service equipment repair, etc. (such alternatives to the above qualifications as determined to be appropriate and acceptable will be taken into consideration).
  6. Must have a valid Kansas driver license and possess a good driving record.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of standard practices, tools, and terminology in plumbing, refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, electronics, and other assigned skill areas.
  2. Ability to work from blueprints, sketches, written and verbal instruction, and to understand the technical language within the assigned skill areas.
  3. Ability to design or modify components to meet job requirements in the assigned skill areas.
  4. Ability to work in various weather and temperature conditions.
  5. Ability to work from heights and in confined areas.
  6. Knowledge of colors.
  7. Ability to perform work independently according to prescribed standards and procedures with a minimum of supervision.
  8. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  9. Dependability and the ability to get along with others.
  10. Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, hazardous materials, and proper ways to perform the assigned tasks.

 

Physical/Emotional Requirements: 

 

The incumbent may be required to use the following skills and abilities during any part of the working day:

  1. The incumbent must be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
  2. Ability to work from a ladder.
  3. Speaking, reading, hearing, and manual dexterity.
  4. Standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and walking.
  5. Reaching, pushing, pulling, climbing, and driving.

 

Performance Responsibilities:

 

  1. Report to the Maintenance Supervisor – Plumbing/HVAC to receive each day’s assignments.
  2. Respond to work requests in a timely and courteous manner.
  3. Perform maintenance and repair tasks in accordance with appropriate standards and procedures.
  4. Assist with a variety of work assignments, including general plumbing, component repair and replacement, pipe fitting, machine repair, repair and replacement of hot water tanks, remodeling of bathrooms, repair and replacement of sprinkler systems, roof drains, sewer traps, etc.
  5. Replace and repair defective pumps, fans, capacitors, leaking lines, etc.
  6. Repair and maintain boilers and air conditioning equipment.
  7. Assist with development and implementation of preventative maintenance program.
  8. Follow the District’s system for the receipt and issuance of parts and supplies, as well as maintaining recordkeeping and inventories.
  9. Attend appropriate training sessions, meetings, and classes as part of professional development.
  10. Accomplish assigned tasks in a safe and efficient manner.
  11. Operate and care for equipment used in daily work assignments.
  12. Maintain accurate and complete time sheets.
  13. Assist other maintenance areas with work requests as assigned.
  14. Occasionally operate medium and heavy equipment in course of day-to-day work assignments.
  15. Assist with snow removal as necessary, including operating snow plows, tractors, etc.
  16. Demonstrate professional image through appearance, language, and work ethic.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Term of Employment:                   Twelve (12) months

 

Evaluation:  Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board policy on evaluation of Classified Personnel.

 

Significant Associations:  The performance responsibilities are not limited to those outlined in this description and may include any other responsibilities as assigned by the administrator/supervisor.
