POSITION TITLE: Building Leader Intern
REPORTS TO: Principal of the Assigned School
POSITION PURPOSE:
The job of the Building Leader Intern is to provide assistance to the principal in carrying out the duties related to the education program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters degree in Educational Leadership with building administration licensure
- Bachelor’s degree with teaching licensure
- Participation in a leadership academy preferred
- Desire to become a building leader/administrator
- Demonstrated successful teaching experience at the related level
- Evidence of the following:
Ø Positive working relationships with students, parents, staff and community
Ø Ability to work in a leadership role
Ø Strong organization skills
Ø Effective communication skills
Ø Objective decision-making
Ø Team/collaboration skills
Ø Effectively copes with crises and emergencies
PHYSICAL/EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
The incumbent may be required to use the following skills and abilities during any part of the working day: speaking, hearing, visual, walking/mobility, standing, consistency of temperament, ability to work with a variety of problems at the same time, stamina for working long hours.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supports the building principal for the purpose of providing assistance with administrative responsibilities
- Serves as the principal’s designee in the absence of the principal
- Assists principal with certified and classified evaluations
- Works with students and parents regarding school-related issues
- Facilitates tasks relating to school improvement and staff development
- Prepares written communication for the purpose of keeping staff, students, and/or parents informed and updated on important issues
- Gathers data and prepares a variety of written materials for the purpose of complying with required reports
- Shares responsibility for attending meetings and activities, providing input, and functioning as the principal’s designee
- Assists the principal in administrating budgets
- Assists the principal in creating and implementing assessment schedules
- Assists the principal in maintaining positive staff morale
- Works with principal to effectively:
Ø Implement a discipline code that is fair and promotes orderliness and student learning
Ø Protect instructional time by minimizing interruptions to the instructional process
Ø Coordinate teacher and student schedules to promote maximum learning and minimize conflict
Ø Maintain high visibility in the school
Ø Provide for adequate supervision and acceptable student behavior at all school functions
planned and operated by school personnel
- Assists in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, and assigning of the school’s professional staff
- Assists in insuring the building(s) and grounds are safe and that drills, evacuations, and emergency drills and procedures conform to state directives.
- Assumes other responsibilities and supervisory duties as assigned by the principal
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and work year to be determined by Board of Education.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of administrators.
