Reports To:  Building Principal

 

Position Purpose:  Organize, supervise, and conduct developmentally-appropriate activities daily to allow children to foster self-confidence and independence.  Work closely with the family to ensure that they receive training, services, and assistance as needed.

 

Qualifications:  Must have a Bachelor’s of Education degree with an emphasis in early childhood education and a current Kansas teaching certificate.

 

ESOL endorsement preferred.

 

Physical/Emotional Requirements:  The incumbent may be required to use the skills and abilities outlined below during any part of the working day.

 

The employee is expected to demonstrate adequate skills in speaking, hearing, manual dexterity, mobility, lifting (as much as 20 lbs), pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, sitting, handling a variety of stressful situations, flexibility in adjusting to varied levels of pressure and intensity, patience, calmness, persistence.

 

Performance Responsibilities:

Critical Performance Areas

  • Develop an individualized program for each child, preparing them to enter Kindergarten.
  • Design and maintain a safe, attractive, and welcoming environment in which each child can grow.
  • Develop developmentally-appropriate weekly lesson plans.
  • Observe and accurately record developmental progress.
  • Conduct a minimum of two home visits and two parent/teacher conferences, per child, each year.
  • Ensure that each family is helped to move toward self-sufficiency and family goals.

 General Performance Areas:

  • Comply with all confidentiality regulations as required.
  • Participate in a yearly evaluation of program.
  • Maintain accurate records and document information in a timely manner.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with program staff.
  • Attend staff meetings, staff development trainings, and other meetings/seminars/conferences, as requested.
  • Maintain the professional competence, knowledge, and skills necessary for the satisfactory performance of this position.
  • Report any suspected child abuse and/or neglect to the appropriate staff person.
  • Seek continual improvement in the processes required to perform this position.
  • Plan and implement developmentally-appropriate lesson plans that include all areas of learning:  physical (large and small motor), emotional, social, and cognitive.
  • Coordinate class field trips that relate to the curriculum.
  • Interact appropriately with the children throughout the day.
  • Provide a positive model for children to follow.
  • Maintain teacher/student ratios at all times.
  • Stay informed of current early childhood education issues.
  • Other duties as requested (as defined in Article 27 of the Professional Agreement).

 Terms of Employment:

 9 months; salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education.

 

Evaluation:

 Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board policy on evaluation of certified professional staff.
