Reports To:  Assigned Transition Coordinator

 

Position Purpose:           

The Vocational Intervention Project is a job training program.  Youth are placed in the project to obtain work skills, explore education opportunities, and develop career plans.  The goal for the project is to assist youth in areas needed to become independent.

 

Qualifications:                 

  • Topeka Public School Youth – 11th and 12th grades - 16-19 years of age

  • Graduated or Youth who have attended Topeka Public Schools 17-24 years of age

 

Physical/Emotional Requirements:  (The incumbent may be required to use the following skills and abilities during any part of the working day.)

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, talk, and hear.  The employee is frequently required to stand and reach with hands and arms.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  The employee is required to interact with staff and to meet demands from several people.  The employee is responsible for the work output of others.  On occasion, the employee may be required to work extended hours.

 

Requirements:  

  • Complete the online application for USD 501 – with a resume attached.
  • Complete application with Topeka 501 Transition Coordinator to determine eligibility for the program.

(Must meet requirements of the Workforce Innovative Opportunities Act – WIOA)

 

During the training project youth will receive services in:

  • Career Development
    • Interest surveys
    • Goal setting
    • Application completion
    • Resume update and letter writing
    • Interview skills
    • Skills assessment
    • Develop a plan (to include career and training options)
  • Work Experience
    • On the job training in areas of interest
      • This is determined by the Transition Coordinator and participating youth
    • Duties will be specific to assigned worksite
    • Youth will be observed and evaluated monthly for progress

 

YOUTH ATTENDING HIGH SCHOOL AND/OR YOUTH WHO HAVE COMPLETED CNA (Health Care Tech) PROGRAMS ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY.  POSSIBLE OPPORTUNITIES AND PLACEMENTS MAY BE MADE THROUGH THE USD #501 – STORMONT VAIL – TOPEKA PUBLIC SCHOOL SPONSORED PROJECT.

Terms of Employment:

Eligible youth will be paid $7.25 per hour, not to exceed 30 hours per week. 

(Internships will not exceed 500 hours within the calendar year of the project.)

 

Evaluation:

Youth will be evaluated and reports filed monthly on performance.

The performance responsibilities are not limited to those outlined in this description and may include any other responsibilities as assigned by the administrator/supervisor.
